ピーター・フレデリック・ストローソン （Peter Frederick Strawson、1919年11月23日 - 2006年2月13日）は、イギリスの哲学者。オックスフォード大学モードリン・カレッジウェインフリート形而上学教授。

亡くなった際には、『ガーディアン』紙に次の追悼文が掲載された。「オックスフォードは、1950年から1970年まで、世界の哲学の首都であり、アメリカの学者たちがこぞって集まったものである。その黄金期に最高の哲学者として在籍していたのがピーター・ストローソンだった」[1]。
学生時代

ピーター・ストローソンは西ロンドンのイーリングに生まれ、北ロンドンのフィンチリーで育った。両親ともに教師であった。フィンチリーのクライスト・カレッジを卒業後、オックスフォード大学セントジョンズ・カレッジに進み、哲学・政治学・経済学を学んだ。
経歴

ストローソンは1950年に発表した「On Referring」という論文によって名を知られるようになった。バートランド・ラッセルの記述理論を批判したものである（「確定記述」も参照）。

ストローソンの哲学の方法論には、2つの相互に関連した重要な点がある。1つ目は、「記述的」形而上学であり、2つ目は、日常生活で用いられる概念から構成される、共有された概念枠組みというアイデアである。著書『Individuals』では、人間が共有する概念枠組みをなしている、相互に連関した網目状の概念たちについて記述が与えられている。特に、基礎的な特殊者（basic particular）についての観念と、それがいかにして時空間的な概念のもとに包摂されるのかが議論されている。この研究が形而上学的なプロジェクトであるとされる所以は、我々が世界について抱く思考の構造的特徴を精査し、人間が現実について考えうる限界を正確に見定めようとしていることによる。

ストローソンは1960年にブリティッシュアカデミーのフェローとなり、1971年にはアメリカ芸術科学アカデミーの国外名誉メンバーとなった。1969年から1970年にかけてアリストテレス協会の会長を務めた。1977年には、哲学における功績に基づき、ナイトの称号を得た。
私生活

ストローソンは戦時中に軍隊の指揮官を務めた後、1945年にアン・マーティンと結婚し、4人の子を儲けた。息子の一人は哲学者のゲーレン・ストローソンである。成人後、生涯のすべてをオックスフォードで過ごし、2006年2月13日に病によって病院で息を引き取った。ストローソンの弟はイギリス陸軍少将のジョン・ストローソンである。
