ビートルズ[注釈 1]（The Beatles）は、1960年代から1970年にかけて活動したイギリス・リヴァプール出身のロックバンド、および20世紀を代表する音楽グループである。音楽誌『ローリング・ストーン』による「ローリング・ストーンの選ぶ歴史上最も偉大な100組のアーティスト」において第1位にランクインしており[7]、経済紙ウォール・ストリート・ジャーナルの統計算出に基づく「史上最も人気のある100のロックバンド」でも1位となっている[8]。グラミー賞を7回受賞し、23回ノミネートされている[9]。
1957年にジョン・レノンがバンド「クオリーメン」を結成し、1960年に「ビートルズ」に改名。1962年10月5日にEMIパーロフォンからデビューし、1970年4月10日に事実上解散した（法的な解散決定は翌1971年）。Fab Four[注釈 2] という通称でも知られる[10]。
活動期間中、母国のイギリスで12作[注釈 3] のオリジナル・アルバムを発売し、そのうち11作が全英アルバムチャートで週間第1位を獲得した。11作の週間第1位の合計獲得数は162週。年間売り上げ最高アルバム4作と、第1作『プリーズ・プリーズ・ミー』による連続30週第1位はいずれも1960年代の最高数[注釈 4]。シングルは22作[注釈 5] 発売し、そのうち17作が第1位を獲得。アメリカなど世界各国においても高い販売数を記録し、全世界でのレコード・カセットテープ・CD・ダウンロード・ストリーミングなどの売上総数は6億を超えている[11]。外貨獲得への多大な貢献に対し、1965年10月26日に女王エリザベス2世からMBE勲章を授与されている[12]。
