ヨックドン国立公園に近く、トレッキングのベースとしても利用される。

バンメトート空港が立地しており、ハノイ・ホーチミン・ダナンなどとの間で航空便が運行されている。

Buon Ma Thu?tはラデ語"?uon ama Y Thuot"（Y Thuotの父の村）、別名Ban Me Thu?tはタイ系言語"baan/b?n m???"+ラデ語"Y Thuot"（Y Thuotの母の村）に由来。
歴史

1904年、ダクラク省はフランス人によって設立され、ブオンマートゥオットはスレポク川上の交易の中心地として地方の行政の中心地に選ばれた。元々エデ族の居住地だったが、ベトナム戦争後にベト族が移住し、アカルチュレーションが起きた。15%(約4万人)はなおも高地人である。
地理
気候

ケッペンの気候区分では、サバナ気候(Aw)に区分される。標高約500mに位置する都市のため、低地と比較して若干冷涼な気候である。乾季は12月から3月までで、特に12月から1月にかけては気温が下がり冷涼な季節である。雨季の始まる前の3月?4月にかけては高温となり、35℃前後まで上がる日が続く。雨季のピークは8月であり、ベトナム国内ではほぼ平均的な雨季の降水量である。
