チップスターは、ヤマザキビスケットが製造・販売する成型ポテトチップスの商品名[1]。
概要

1976年に日本初の成型ポテトチップス製品としてヤマザキナビスコから販売開始された[1]。

円筒型パッケージの採用も日本の菓子業界では初の事例であり、2018年にはグッドデザイン・ロングライフデザイン賞を受賞している[1]。このパッケージは、以前は類似商品であるプリングルスと同様に、プラスチック製の蓋、およびスチール製の底面を使用した物であったが、1992年に「地球にやさしいチップスター」をテーマとしてリサイクルパッケージに変更し、外側の円筒型パッケージについては全て紙製となった[2]。ただし、ポテトチップス自体はアルミ蒸着フィルムの袋に入っており、円筒型パッケージ内にそのままポテトチップスが入っているプリングルスとは状況が異なる。

ヤマザキナビスコはモンデリーズ・インターナショナルとのライセンス契約終了に伴い、2016年にヤマザキビスケットに社名変更となったが、チップスターは継続してヤマザキビスケットから製造販売された[3]。
市場シェア

日本のポテトチップス市場全体でみるとシェアの7割をカルビーが占めているが、成型ポテトチップスに限定した場合、チップスターとプリングルズ（日本ケロッグ）による寡占状態が長らく続いている（2018年時点）[4]。
2023年の価格・規格改定

主原料となるポテトフレークや、脂の価格高騰、電気代やガス代といった製造にかかる費用に、物流費用の上昇などもあり、2023年1月に同年3月出荷分から価格と規格の改訂が予告され、実施された[5]。同年4月になると、新規格製品を購入した消費者の中から、容器のサイズに対して容量の少なさを指摘する声がSNS上に相次いだ[5][6]。実際、内容量はLサイズで115グラムから105グラムへ、Sサイズで50グラムから45グラムへと減少[6]、数に換算するとLサイズで6枚程度、Sサイズで3枚程度の減量となっている[5]。容器のデザインは変更は行われたが、高さなどの寸法は変えていなかったため[5]、優良誤認ではないかとの指摘も挙がった[6]。
