シグモイド(英: sigmoid)とは、ギリシア文字シグマ (σ) の語末形(?)に似た形のこと。S字形ともいう。
特に各種グラフに現れるシグモイド曲線 (英: sigmoid curve) を指す。このようなグラフは個体群増加や、ある閾値以上で起きる反応(例えば急性毒性試験での死亡率)などに見られる。 ( − ∞ , ∞ ) → ( a , b ) {\displaystyle (-\infty ,\infty )\rightarrow (a,b)} の単調増加連続関数で表される。 y = a {\displaystyle y=a} と y = b {\displaystyle y=b} を漸近線に持ち、 lim x → ∞ y = a {\displaystyle \lim _{x\rightarrow \infty }y=a} lim x → − ∞ y = b {\displaystyle \lim _{x\rightarrow -\infty }y=b} lim x → ± ∞ y ˙ = 0 {\displaystyle \lim _{x\rightarrow \pm \infty }{\dot {y}}=0} である。 1つの変曲点を持つ。つまり、変曲点を ( x s , y s ) {\displaystyle (x_{\mathrm {s} },y_{\mathrm {s} })} とすると、 となる。 生化学ではアロステリックタンパク質(または酵素)の飽和(反応)曲線にシグモイド曲線がよく見られるが、これは正の協同性があることを示す。一般にヒルの式という経験式で表されるが、これも変数を対数に変換すればロジスティック関数の形になる。
