エンターテイメント

エンターテインメント（英語 Entertainment）は、人々を楽しませる娯楽を指す。

楽しみ、気分転換、気晴らし、遊び、息抜き、レジャーなどが類語とされる。類義語のアミューズメント（Amusement）も、アミューズメント施設など娯楽要素を表す。
語義

"Entertainment"という言葉の原義としては、特に演者の技能を鑑賞することを主体とした見せ物、出し物、余興などを指す語で、スポーツ・舞台演劇・演奏会・公演などを指す。表記や発音の利便性から「ン」を抜くエンターテイメント[1]や省略形でエンタメなども用いられる。

"Entertainment"を発音記号から機械的に変換するとエンターテインメントとなるが、英語の発音は"entertainment"の9文字目の"n"がほとんど発音を聞き取れない。書き言葉でエンタ（ー）テインメント、話し言葉でエンターテイメント、が多用されている[注釈 1]。

デジタルエンターテインメント

米国でいうDigital Entertainmentは一般的には「デジタル化されたゲームのエンターテインメント」をいう[2]。ただし、インターネットを利用した映画や音楽等の配給や配信、映画のデジタル化、アニメーション等のデジタル技術を利用したビジネスを幅広く含む場合もある[2]。
