エリック・パトリック・クラプトン（Eric Patrick Clapton, CBE、1945年3月30日 - ）は、イギリスのミュージシャン、シンガーソングライター。

史上最も重要で影響力のあるギタリストの1人とされる[2][3]。クラプトンはローリング・ストーン誌の「史上最高のギタリスト100人」で2位[4]、ギブソンの「史上最高のギタリストトップ50」で4位にランクされた[5]。2009年にはタイム誌の「エレクトリックギタープレーヤーベスト10」で5位に選ばれた[6]。
人物

さまざまな地元のバンドで演奏した後、クラプトンは1963年にヤードバーズのギタリスト、トップ・トーパムに代わって加入した。ヤードバーズがブルースロックからラジオ向けのポップ指向を目指したことに不満を抱いたクラプトンは1965年に脱退、ジョン・メイオール&ザ・ブルースブレイカーズに加入した。1966年にメイオールを脱退、彼はドラマーのジンジャー・ベイカー、ベーシストのジャック・ブルースとパワートリオのクリームを結成、持続的なブルースの即興演奏と「芸術的でブルースベースのサイケデリックポップ」を演奏した[7]。1968年11月にクリームが解散した後、彼はベイカー、スティーヴ・ウィンウッド、リック・グレッチとブルースロックバンドのブラインド・フェイスを結成、1枚のアルバムを発表し1度のツアーを行った。ブラインド・フェイスは1970年に解散し、クラプトンはソロキャリアに乗り出した。

ソロキャリアに加えて、クラプトンはデラニー&ボニー、デレク・アンド・ザ・ドミノスとも共演し、代表曲の1つである「いとしのレイラ」をレコーディングした。その後数十年にわたって多くのソロアルバムと曲を発表し、高い評価を得た。その中には、1974年にリリースしたボブ・マーリーのカバー「アイ・ショット・ザ・シェリフ」（レゲエが一般マーケットに受け入れられるきっかけとなった[8]）、カントリー・ミュージックで満たされた『スローハンド』(1977)、ポップロックの『オーガスト』(1986)などが含まれる。
