エミネムというステージネームは、本名のイニシャル「M&M」を早口にしたら「Eminem」になったというものが由来とされる。また、「スリム・シェイディ（Slim Shady）」という道化師の別人格が存在するとし、スリムあるいはシェイディという名前が歌詞にも頻繁に登場する。スリム・シェイディのコンセプトを思いつく1997年以前から自身をエミネムと名乗っており、初期にM&Mの名で活動していた。身長173cm。
全世界で2億2000万以上のアルバム＆シングルを販売した、「史上最も売れたアーティスト」の1人であり、史上最も売れた男性ラッパーである。代表曲に「ザ・リアル・スリム・シェイディ」「スタン」「ウィズアウト・ミー」「ルーズ・ユアセルフ」「ジャスト・ルーズ・イット」「ノット・アフレイド」「ラヴ・ザ・ウェイ・ユー・ライ」「ラップ・ゴッド」などがある。
