Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) とは、インスタントメッセージのためのプロトコルの1つ。 Jabber というインスタントメッセージの核になっているプロトコルで、その仕様は完全に公開されている。そのため、たとえばメールサーバと同じように、ドメインとサーバさえあれば自分専用のJabberサーバを立ち上げることができる。この点でほかのインスタントメッセージと異なる。
