愛知県（あいちけん）は、日本の中部地方に位置する県。県庁所在地は名古屋市。
概要

日本列島の中央部にあたり、人口約750万人は東京都、神奈川県、大阪府に次いで4番目に多い。県内総生産は東京都、大阪府に次いで3位である[1]。政令指定都市である名古屋市は、中部地方・東海地方（東海3県）最大の人口を擁し、同地方における中心都市となっている。同市を中心とした中京圏（名古屋都市圏）は首都圏（東京都市圏）・近畿圏（大阪都市圏）とともに三大都市圏の一角を占める。1人当たりの県民所得は、東京都に次ぐ全国2位、名目県内総生産(GDP)は、東京都、大阪府に次ぐ全国3位である[2]。

トヨタ自動車（トヨタグループ）の本拠地である豊田市や刈谷市、名古屋市などの工業都市を中心に日本最大の工業地帯である中京工業地帯の中核を成す工業県でもあり、自動車産業や航空宇宙産業などが盛んである。年間製造品出荷額は48兆円に達し、全国最大である（44年連続全国1位）[3]。その他、年間商品販売額（2019年）は33兆7,292億円で全国3位、農業産出額（2019年）は2,949億円で全国8位[4] と工業・商業・農業いずれも国内上位である。

県内は大きく分けて尾張地方、三河地方に分けられ、三河地方は更に西三河地方、東三河地方に分けられる。尾張地方・西三河地方・東三河地方の面積比はほぼ1:1:1、人口比はほぼ7:2:1と名古屋市の位置する県内西部の尾張地方に偏在している。

郡名が県名にされた県のひとつで、現在の名古屋市の中心部が所属していた愛知郡に由来している。高市黒人が詠んだ「桜田へ鶴鳴き渡る年魚市潟[注釈 1] 潮干にけらし鶴鳴き渡る」という歌が『万葉集』にあり、そこに書かれた「年魚市（あゆち）」が律令制下で愛知郡という郡名に採用されたといわれている[5]。ほかに、あゆちの水（湧水）説・あゆち村説などがある[6]。古代には「年魚市」のほか「鮎市（あゆち）」[7]「愛智（あいち）」[8][9] とも表記された。
